Today mobile devices are the most persistent personal technology globally, importantly so in the emerging markets and even at the bottom of the pyramid. The features and capabilities of the mobile devices even at very low price points have been consistently increasing. This presents an unprecedented opportunity to connect huge populations via mobile devices like never before to build capacity in literacy, education, entrepreneurship and agriculture information leading to economic development and provide access to vital information on key health topics leading healthier and more productive lives.

Nokia’s BoP Innovation – Nokia Life – addresses this opportunity with a range of Education, Healthcare, Agriculture and Entertainment services addressing millions of Mobile Only consumers, who probably would never use a PC. Nokia Life has already impacted over 100+ million people in India, China, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, etc.. (21 in all) within a span 2-3 years. During this interactive talk, Bhanu Potta will highlight some of the innovative disruptions in technology, partnerships and business models behind Nokia Life’s growth and discuss the case for Mobile Tech’s future role in life and livelihood improvement.

Brief Profile of Guest Speaker

Mr. Bhanu Potta is a Global Product Strategist in New-age Tech & Mobile Devices for Education, Learning & Knowledge Sectors. He is a Board Advisor to few companies, Professor of Practice with few Institutions and is frequently invited as Speaker & Panellist to International & National Conferences.

He is presently with Nokia as Global Product Leader where he pioneers and oversees Global Product, Portfolio & Partnerships management for Nokia Life – the world’s largest learning and knowledge access platform for Mobile Only users in areas of Education, Health, Agriculture, Women Empowerment, Entrepreneurship and Infotainment. He also provide strategic guidance to Nokia’s Corporate Social Investments in the areas of Tech for Development, Education and Connected Living.

Outside Nokia, Bhanu Potta is a Board Advisor to few product & services companies in India and USA. He is Advisor & Professor of Practice with the Institute of Directors India. He is also an Executive Coach at the Institute of Product Leadership, Asia’s first business school on product leadership.

Mr. V (Venkatswamy) Lokesh is Managing Director at Innomantra. He brings with him more than 20 years of professional experience in Intellectual Property management, New Product Development, and innovation management. Prior to Innomantra, he managed innovation and intellectual property activities at Larsen & Toubro. He began his career with the Medical Equipment and Systems Group at L&T where he spent 12 years in mechanical design and development. At Innomantra, Lokesh has worked with clients in a wide range of sectors including Automotive, Industrial Equipment Manufacturing, Information Technology, Engineering Services, Medical Electronics and Consumer Goods in the areas of Intellectual Property Management and Innovation Management. He has also advised educational institutions, entrepreneurs, industry associations and government agencies in these areas.

Lokesh has chaired and participated as speaker in several Innovation & IPR conferences and seminars. He has delivered guest lectures at institutions like IISc Bangalore, IIM Indore and BITS-Pilani. Lokesh, a Mechanical Engineer, has an MBA in Marketing and PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Law from National Law School of India University (NLSIU).
